Excerpt from Competitive Gymnastics Policy 5.0 Gymnast Try-Outs and Evaluation Gymnasts wishing to enroll in competitive gymnastics will be required to attend an evaluation session (try-out) with certified coaches, including current and returning athletes. This evaluation session is to ensure that the athlete is placed in the appropriate level. Gymnasts may request a competitive placement evaluation at any time; however the coach’s decision is final. Athletes may be charged a fee for evaluations. The nature of competitive gymnastics is such that formal evaluations or report cards are not issued. Progress is determined by the coach (by assessing required skills) or by personal best scores (assessed by judges.) If a gymnast exemplifies progress and skill beyond their registered class level the coach may recommend the gymnast be placed in a higher level. Fee adjustments may be required, as well as a change of date, time, and coach. Criteria for advancement (WAG): Mobilization requirements between levels is outlined in the current Alberta or Canada Program Handbook for each discipline. These criteria will be taken into consideration when moving athletes between levels within a program or between disciplines.
